After years of camaraderie, competition, and countless memorable moments, the Powys Arms Vets football team brought their journey to a perfect close on Friday 11th July with a stunning victory at the Leek Town Charity Shield 7-a-side Vets Tournament.
Hosted at the renowned Leek Town F. Ball Community Stadium, the tournament marked the team’s final outing following the conclusion of their final season in the Veteran’s league back in April following five successful seasons in the league. And what a way to sign off — with winner’s shield in hand and smiles all round.
The squad, known for their grit and good humour, rolled back the years with a series of spirited performances, winning five games, drawing one, and losing none, culminating in a well-earned tournament win. It was an evening filled with nostalgia, laughter, and a touch of magic — a reminder of everything grassroots football is about.
This “last hurrah” wasn’t just about lifting a trophy. It was a celebration of the friendships forged, the battles fought, and the pride of representing the Powys Arms badge. For many of the players, this final match was the closing chapter of a long and cherished footballing story.
