Previously referred to as a field or attribute, columns define the individual data items that can be used to store information in a table.
In the Microsoft Dataverse, there is a wide range of column types available, allowing business data to be captured in the format best suited to its use. These include:
- Text, Multiline Text & Text Area – capture text of pre-defined lengths. This also includes support for different types of text such as URLs and rich text
- Floating Point & Decimal – capture numeric values with defined degrees of precision
- File – upload a file against a table row
- Image
- Currency – store monetary data
- Lookup – link a row from one table to another, or the same table if creating a parent/child hierarchy
- Choice & Choices – choose one or more options from a pre-defined list of values
- Formula – Uses Power Fx to dynamically determine the value. This can be as simple as adding the value of two other columns together or more complex calculations using values from multiple tables
