From November 1st, 2025, Microsoft will introduce significant changes for AI Builder credits, used by AI Builder for automated data intelligence actions.
What is AI Builder?
AI Builder is a Microsoft Power Platform feature that enables users to add artificial intelligence to apps and prcoesses without needing advanced coding skills. It offers prebuilt and custom models for tasks such as form processing, object detection, prediction, and text classification. It has a wide range of uses, from reading business cards, detecting sentiment levels in text and probability prediction.
What are AI Builder credits?
Each action carried out by AI Builder consumes a number of AI Builder credits, the number varying depending on the AI model being used. Credits can be bought in packs, but also several Power Platform licences entitle a user to a number of free AI Builder credits each month, called seeded credits.
What is changing on November 1st?
There are three changes:
- AI Builder actions will now be funded by Copilot Studio credits, not AI Builder credits.
- It will no longer be possible to buy AI Builder credits.
- Seeded credits will no longer be included with Power Platform licences.
What happens to my existing AI Builder credits?
Your AI Builder credits – whether purchased directly or included in Power Apps, Power Automate, or Dynamics 365 Finance – can still be used, but you must switch to Copilot Studio credits at renewal. Customers who purchased these SKUs before that date can continue using the included AI Builder capacity until October 1, 2026, after which Copilot Studio credits will be required to maintain access to these AI tools.
Summary
It makes sense for Microsoft to bring all of their AI tools under the same Copilot umbrella, although these licence changes could impact those customers who relied on seeded credits for their AI processes.
