Microsoft have further improved the maintenance update process with a recently announced update to the Power Platform.
The new Maintenance Window Management feature is currently in Public Preview in the Power Platform admin centre. This will allow customers to schedule maintenance updates during suitable hours. Microsoft understand that their customers all have different timetables and not everyone will operate within the same business hours.
What is the Power Platform?
The Power Platform is a range of Microsoft products which enables your business to develop solutions and empower users to bring together customised technology solutions to help drive digital transformation. It incorporates Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and even Dynamics 365.
How do I set the Maintenance Window?
To update the Maintenance Window, simply follow these steps:
- Sign in to the Power Platform admin centre.
- Select Environments, and then select a production environment from the list.
- Select Settings > Updates > Maintenance window settings (Preview).
- On the Maintenance window settings page, choose the hours to receive updates from Microsoft.
- Select Save.
What benefits does this update provide?
Maintenance Window Management provides flexibility to customers and guarantees any perturbations to the service will occur during an appropriate time that suits a customer’s needs. Please note that a maintenance window does not intend to signal downtime or performance degradation in the system. Customers can continue to run mission critical applications/workloads 24×7 without incurring any downtime or performance degradation.
Summary
Although this new functionality is only in public preview for the moment, the introduction of Maintenance Window Management in the Power Platform is a valuable update from Microsoft which will provide flexibility for customers.
